Capuchino Mustangs: 2025- 18-11, 9-5 PAL Bay Division, second place, CCS-Division II semifinalist. Coach: Matt Wilson.

By the end of the 2025 season, few teams had the kind of momentum of Capuchino, which shook off a midseason slump by winning eight of its final 10 games and claim a spot in the CCS-Division II tournament.

The Mustangs then knocked off Leigh, the No. 1 seed, before seeing their season come to an end three days later in the semifinals against Wilcox.

It was the end of an era for a senior class that has been to the CCS tournament three straight years, won a crown and advance to two championship games. The Mustangs graduated 10 seniors – an entire starting lineup and pitching staff and will start from scratch in 2026.

It's a young group, Matt Wilson said, but while there are no household names, he expects his young Mustangs to win its share of games.

"I think we'll be competitive," he said. "We need everyone to stay healthy, we will compete."

It's an untested group, one that combined for a grand total of 97 plate appearances last year. More than half of them came from Billy Ferreira, who hit .244 with 10 hits, six runs scored and three RBI.

Outfielder Jordan Estrella and third baseman Dominic Fanara will be expected to step into the lineup, too, as well as make contributions on the pitcher's mound.

Meanwhile, a number of players who were at the junior varsity level last year will be called for larger roles at the varsity level.

Infielders Aaron Rodriguez and Logan Areco will battle for starting spots, while outfielder Cruz Alfaro, utility player Cole Douglas and catcher Jacob Zayac, the brother of graduated four-year starter Lucas, figure greatly into Wilson's lineup plans.

Morgan Meehan, Douglas and Areco could also see some innings on the mound.
