Jacob Shinseki shut down a potent Sequoia offense on Friday, holding them scoreless in 5 2/3 innings as Carlmont won a much-needed 7-2 decision over the visiting Ravens.
Shinseki allowed just two hits, while striking out six. He struggled with his control, walking six, but handed the ball over to Devin DeBono with two out in the sixth inning. Sequoia got its only runs in the seventh, but DeBono had enough to close out the Ravens.
Lucas Chan, Ryan Weiss and Nate Werbinski had two hits each for the Scots, who had a 4-0 lead after two innings. Werbinski had a double, a triple and drove in a run.
The win gave Carlmont a series split with Sequoia. They have a three-game week coming up, but only Friday's showdown with Hillsdale at Oracle Park is a PAL-Bay Division game.
Sequoia senior Morgan Winfield, the Peninsula's home run leader with five, didn't get the chance to swing the bat often. He walked twice and was hit by a pitch. He scored a run in the seventh inning.
