Menlo School scored in every inning and staved off a Piedmont Hills rally in the seventh to win a CCS-Division V semifinal game on Tuesday and advance into Thursday's championship game.

The Knights (20-8) will face Monterey on Thursday at Excite Park in San Jose.

Last year, they won the CCS-Division VI crown.

Liam Widner threw six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, to pick up the victory. He struck out three and walked four.

He carried a shutout into the seventh inning before Piedmont Hills rallied for five runs against Widner and Jack Freehill.

Freehill had three hits and drove in a pair for Menlo, while Zach Roeder had two hits.

Freehill put the Knights in the lead for good by leading off the bottom of the first inning with a double. He stole third and came home when the catcher's throw went into left field.

That run led to Menlo getting at least a run in every inning. Freehill's sixth-inning triple drove home Fletcher Cahill, who had led off with a walk.

Menlo faces No. 2 Monterey, which knocked off No. 3 Harbor, 4-1, in the other semifinal game.
