Lightning didn't strike twice. There was no repeat performance for Sequoia, which last year topped Saint Francis in what might have been the biggest win of Mike Doyle's tenure there.

Doyle spent some time this week contacting last year's senior class to remind them of that accomplishment and to credit them for raising the level of play at Sequoia, something that has carried over into this year.

But Friday was a step backward. Pitted against their strongest opponent to date, and one with an axe to grind after last year's 3-2 loss to the Ravens, the Lancers showed no mercy in a 10-0 victory.

The win raised St. Francis' record to 4-1, while Sequoia, also 4-1, suffered its first loss of the year by managing just one base runner. Luke Ostrander's bunt single with one out in the third inning proved to be the only blemish against the pitching trio of Kyle McMillan, Antonio Madrigal and Matthew Moody.

McMillan was impressive, mixing his fastball with a breaking pitch. More important, he filled the strike zone and finished his five-inning stint with five strikeouts.

The Lancers scored a run in the first when Sio Tulua walked with the bases loaded against Mario Fausto. They added two more in the second on Tanner Wall's long double off the fence in right-center field.

That 3-0 lead continued to grow. Aaron Bonini had a triple to right-center field that scored Henry Dommer in the third. Dommer had a two-run double in the fourth and the Lancers broke it open with three in the sixth.

Perhaps the play that best epitomized the kind of night it was for the Ravens came in the fifth when Bonini hit a high pop on the infield off reliver Ollie Connolly. Sequoia's infielders converged and the ball fell between them on the pitcher's mound, allowing a hustling Bonini to slide into second with an infield double.
