Lancers lock up No. 1 seed in CCS

Saint Francis, which last won a Central Coast Section championship in 2018, locked up the top seed in this year's tournament, which begins Saturday.

The 48 teams advancing to the postseason were announced Monday night, following a lengthy meeting by the CCS selection committee. The teams were divided into six eight-team brackets.

The Lancers, who wrapped up the West Catholic Athletic League crown by going 24-3 and recording a school-record 17 shutouts, will open the tournament with Serra, the defending CCS-Division I champion. Saint Francis closed the season by sweeping a two-game series with the Padres last week.

Other Division I games of not include No. 2 Valley Christian hosting No. 7 Willow Glen, No. 6 Bellarmine traveling to No. 3 Los Gatos and No. 4 St. Ignatius Prep playing host to No. 5 Soquel.

In all, the WCAL placed seven teams in the tourney, while six teams from the PAL-Bay Division, three from the PAL-Ocean Division and five from the SCVAL-De Anza Division received bids.

Division II: No. 8 Menlo-Atherton at No. 1 Carmel; No. 7 Palo Alto at No. 2 Palma; No. 6 Leigh at No. 3 Burlingame; No. 5 Archbishop Mitty at No. 4 Sacred Heart Cathedral.

Division III: No. 8 Christopher at No. 1 Menlo School; No. 7. Carlmont at No. 2 Hollister; No. 6 Santa Teresa at No. 3 Wilcox; No. 5 Aptos at No. 4 Sacred Heart Prep.

Division IV: No. 8 Sequoia vs. No. 1 Harbor; No. 7 The King's Academy at Los Altos; No. 6. Pioneer at No. 3 Santa Cruz; No. 5 Piedmont Hills at No. 4 Monterey.

Division V: N0. 8 Salinas vs. No. 1 San Mateo; No. 7 Homestead at No. 2 Half Moon Bay; No. 6 Stevenson vs. No. 3 Ann Sobrato; No. 5 St. Francis at No. 4 Live Oak.
