Chuck Wynn is seeing the ball better than ever right now. That's been apparent this week. Menlo School's senior catcher hit five home runs in three games, including three in Saturday's 17-1 victory over Aptos.

The three home runs upped his season total to seven and moved him ahead of Sequoia's Morgan Winfield for the Peninsula lead.

"It feels good," said Wynn, who drove in a career-high eight runs Saturday. "I'm definitely going to ride the wave for the night and then get back after it tomorrow."

Wynn missed the first week of the season while Menlo's soccer team went through the Central Coast Section playoffs but has been the Knights' best hitter since entering the starting lineup in the third game.

"For me, it's all about confidence, thinking I'm the best guy out there," he said.

But this latest tear is a little different. He's hitting the ball harder and pulling it a little more.

"They're mostly pull-side homers," he said. "But I still have the right-center approach to keep me swinging through the ball."

Wynn was also driven by emotion on Saturday. He struck out on his first at bat, just his second whiff of the season, and he went back to the dugout feeling a bit miffed.

"That definitely fueled me," he said. "In my second at-bat, I didn't get a fastball at all until the home run pitch. In my third at-bat, the pitcher was extremely slow, and I just tried to drive the ball as hard as I could."

The Knights scored in each inning and pounded out 13 hits. Matthew Majayla added a home run, his third of the year, while Fletcher Cahill had two hits and drove in three runs. Jack Freehill had two hits and two RBI.

That was more than enough offense for winning pitcher Reid Plamondon, who held the Mariners to three hits.
