Morgan Winfield has hit a lot of home runs in his youth. Plenty at Sequoia. But Thursday was a first. A walk-off grand slam homer to give the Ravens a come-from-behind 11-7 victory over visiting Santa Teresa in eight innings.

"It's the best feeling I've had," said the senior third baseman.

It was a case of lightning striking twice. Down 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Mario Fausto hit a grand slam to tie the game and force extra innings.

The two grand slams in two innings created an oddity. In a game that has played since 1946, certainly this feat has been done before. We just don't know when or if it has ever happened in a high school game on the Peninsula.

If you know, drop us a line.

Either way, it made for a wild one in Redwood City.

"This is probably the most intense and hyped games I've ever been a part of," said Winfield, who had just the one hit, but what a hit it was.

Down 7-6, Oliver Connolly singled to lead off the inning. Pinch-hitter Isaac Nayfack singled to put runners on first and second. Drew Ostrander put down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position.

Garrett Johnson was intentionally walked to load the bases for Cole Hymer, who hit an infield grounder with the infield in. Connolly beat the throw home to tie the game at 7.

On the second pitch to Winfield, a hanging curveball, he said, he launched it over the fence in left field.

"I put a good swing on it," Winfield said.

Bellarmine Prep 15, Lincoln of San Jose 1

First the bad news. Junior starter Preston Pera, the right-hander coach Nate Sutton calls the ace of the Bellarmine Prep pitching staff, injured ACL and is lost for the season.

The injury came in the second inning of Friday's victory over Jesuit. With the WCAL season set to begin on Tuesday at Valley Christian, the Bells find themselves with a big hole at the top of their rotation.

Ollie McNamara showed in Thursday's 15-1 victory over Lincoln of San Jose that he will be able to fill some innings. McNamara threw three innings against the Lions and allowed a run on two hits with four strikeouts.

By the time he left the game, the contest was no longer in question. Bellarmine scored two runs in the first on Drew McClelland's home run. They added nine more runs in the second, a frame that included eight hits, three of them homers.

Isaiah Beyah had a two-run homer, while Emmet Arnott added a three-run shot and Vincent Kim followed with a solo shot. The four-homer game was a season high for the Bells, but it wasn't unexpected, especially in the cozy confines of their ballpark. Through seven games, Bellarmine has eight home runs.

Nathan Chew and Arleigh Souza had two hits each, while Ryder Suba came off the bench to add a two-run double for the Bells, who had 17 hits in the five-inning game.
