Sequoia Ravens: 2025- 15-13, 7-7 PAL Bay Division, third place, CCS-Division III qualifier. Coach: Mike Doyle.

The Ravens should be considered a PAL-Bay Division dark horse with the return of four starters, including senior Morgan Winfield, who might be the best power hitter on the Peninsula.

Winfield, who has signed to play at Saint Mary's College, led the Bay Division with six home runs last year. He also hit .380 and had an OPS of 1.219. He also went 6-0 with a 1.62 earned-run average and 68 strikeouts in 65 innings.

"Morgan is one of the more accomplished players ever to play at Sequoia," said coach Mike Doyle.

Sequoia will need another big season from Winfield if it wants to vie for a Bay Division crown and a return invitation to the Central Coast Section tournament.

Second baseman Garrett Johnson returns to the infield along with Luke Ostrander, who saw limited action in the second half of the season and hit .257 as a sophomore.

Mario Fausto returns to the outfield and could be the Ravens' No. 2 starter behind Winfield. Fausto hit .312 last year and will look to improve on a 5.73 ERA. Brandon Ackerhalt hit .267 in a reserve role last year.

"We’ll be young at a lot of positions but very capable," Doyle said. "We also have a lot of players that can play multiple positions, so I envision a lot of different players contributing to our success in 2026."

It could mean a lot of lineups shuffling until Doyle figures out the right combination.

"Things will become clearer as we start playing more games," he said.

The Ravens do have some pitching depth, Doyle says, and Winfield agrees.

"We have some good arms in the rotation," say Winfield, who slots in as the ace, but there might not be as big a drop-off to No. 2 as there was last year.

Mario Fausto, brother Nolan and Mays Pagnotta all have "power arms," according to Doyle. Johnson, who went 3-3 last year, will also eat some innings.

"I expect each of them to have good years on the mound," Doyle said.

For the first time in four years, the Ravens will have a different player behind the plate. Replacing Logan Mathias, now at Rochester University, will be Connor Murray, an athletic young catcher who hit .351 for the JV team and worked hard in the fall to improve his game.

Help could come from the contributions of infielders Oliver Connelly, Dom De La Cruz and Cole Hymer, all of whom had solid seasons at the junior varsity level last year.
