Riley Lim, who this week signed a letter of intent with the University of Pacific, allowed three runs over five innings to pick up the victory as the Pades won their third straight game.

Los Gatos 15, Mountain View 4

Jeff Schwan sat down his pitching staff last week following a 12-0 loss to Saint Francis and told them the game would get a whole lot easier if they could fill the strike zone.

The strike zone remained a moving target on Wednesday for the Spartans, who opened the SCVAL-De Anza Division season with a 15-4 loss to visiting Los Gatos that was highlighted by five pitchers issuing nine walks and hitting seven batters in a contest that took nearly three hours to complete.

Friday's game figures to be better for Mountain View, which will send Brennan Dooley, its top pitcher, to the mound, but finding someone to throw strikes is now one of the dilemmas facing Schwan and his team

Los Gatos had no problem with that on Wednesday, not with Ethan Williams on the mound. The senior went four innings and, while he worked himself into some jams, he found his way out, thanks to his ability to miss bats.

After giving up a leadoff triple in the bottom of the first, he struck out the next three hitters, two of them looking, to escape the jam.

The Wildcats scored three in the first without getting a hit. Four walks, two hit batters and two errors plated the runs. They broke it open much the same way in the second inning by scoring nine runs as Mountain View used three pitchers in the inning.

The lone hits for Los Gatos in the second were an RBI single from Max Thomas and a bases-loaded bunt by Beau Musser where Thomas eluded the tag to score the run.

Brady Simon, who was hit twice in a game against Menlo School two weeks ago, was hit three more times on Wednesday. Jackson Fitzpatrick had a two-run double and a sacrifice fly.

Terra Nova junior Jesse Martinez pitched well enough to win in his first start of the season. Martinez allowed a run, while striking out five in six innings of work.
