South San Francisco Warriors: 2025- 23-6, 13-2 in PAL Lake Division, champion. Promoted to the Ocean Division. CCS-Division VI qualifier, lost in championship game. Coach- Matt Schaukowitch

We'll find out a great deal about the state of the South San Francisco baseball program this season when the Warriors find themselves competing in the PAL's Ocean Division.

Are the Warriors the latest iteration of perhaps the north Peninsula's most storied baseball programs or are the last two years – where they combined for a 45-12 record and two trips to the Central Coast Section championship game – the result of playing in the weak PAL-Lake Division and playing a fluffy non-league schedule?

We'll learn a lot this year, but both can be at least partially true.

It's clear that Matt Schaukowitch has rebuilt a program that has its share of talent and had outgrown the Lake Division. The promotion to the Ocean Division will give some good players the chance to show themselves against stronger competition.

For the Warriors, it starts with the Bernal Brothers. Senior pitcher and third baseman Giovanni Bernal and junior outfielder and pitcher Vince Bernal weigh heavily into South City's plans.

Giovanni hit .398 last year with 41 hits, including a Peninsula-leading 15 doubles, and 47 RBI. Vince hit .391 and scored 50 runs, the most of anyone in the area.

Senior shortstop Emilio Oseguera will also be the Warriors ace on the mound. He compiled a 1.52 earned-run average with 86 strikeouts in 55 innings last year, while Giovanni Bernal had a 2.26 ERA and had 69 strikeouts in 68 innings.

Adam Keith, who hit .319 and drove in 19 runs in 2025, returns to the outfield, as do sophomore infielder Josh Ornelas and junior catcher Yordonis Medina-Pineda.
