The high school baseball community collectively smiled on Monday, when preparation officially began for the new season all over the Peninsula.

Tryouts and practices officially began.

And nowhere was the smile bigger than at Terra Nova High, where the Tigers played on their home field for the first time in nearly 21 months.

A major renovation that included adding artificial turf, lights and restrooms to the diamond, which was originally built in the 1960s when the Pacifica campus opened its doors.

"It was really cool," said Terra Nova coach Jared Milch. "I was so happy for the kids."

The project, part of an $11.5 million bond issue that was passed in 2020, kept the Tigers on the road all of 2025.

On Monday there was a buzz when the Tigers, both the varsity and junior varsity teams, took to the field.

"It felt like we'd been waiting forever," said junior shortstop Brody Finale. "It felt good to get out there."

The Tigers will play their first home game since May 7, 2024, on Feb. 25 when they host San Lorenzo Valley.
