Serra was in need of something to feel good about itself. Maybe a few hits. Or a strong pitching performance. Perhaps a couple of long balls. It got all of the above Friday in a 9-2 win over Bellarmine that snapped a four-game losing streak in WCAL play.
Freshman Michael Ohman allowed two hits over six innings to pick up the win, while the Padres collected eight hits – three of them by Nate Hui – and Jack Wessell and Aaron Minton added home runs.
Minton finished with four RBI, while Wessell and Donovan Friedland drove in two runs each.
Bellarmine, which enter the game on a seven-game winning streak and had won 13 of its last 14 games, was due for a return to earth. The Bells' got a home run from sophomore Emmet Arnott.
Serra takes on Mitty next week, while Bellarmine will begin a series with Riordan on Tuesday.

Logan Arceo went the distance for his first career shutout. He struck out five and walked two while allowing just four hits for the Mustangs, who won their first PAL-Bay Division game this season.
The Mustangs broke open a 1-0 game by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Jake Wilson had a double and two RBI.
Cole Hymer had two hits for the Ravens, who beat Capuchino, 12-6, on Wednesday but had to settle for the series split.

Carlmont 14, Menlo-Atherton 8
Levi Wellman had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs, while Zayden Luzzo had three hits for the Scots, who came from behind to salvage a split in the Bay Division Series.
The two teams combined for 43 runs in the series with Menlo-Atherton outscoring Carlmont, 22-21 – a sign that the two teams, both young and talented, are pretty evenly matched.
Freshman Jake Scott had three hits and four RBI for the Bears, continuing his hot streak since being promoted to the varsity late last month. MJ Ellazar had two hits, while Caden Stinson drove in two runs for Carlmont.

Saint Francis 3, St. Ignatius Prep 0
After surrendering 15 hits to the Wildcats on Tuesday, the Saint Francis pitching staff reverted back to its dominant way by tossing its 13th shutout of the season.
Kyle McMillan allowed five hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out three before giving way to Ian McMahon after giving up consecutive singles in the bottom of the seventh. McMahon got a strikeout for the final out of the contest as the Lancers salvaged a split.
The Lancers scored a run against Tycco Giametti in the first inning and added runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Leadoff man Landon King had two hits, including a double and scored a run, while Tanner Wall scored the other two runs.
Aaron Bonini recorded his second straight two-hit game, while Siale Tulua also had two hits. St. Ignatius Prep was led by Chase Gordon and RJ Church, each of whom had two hits.
The Lancers will take on Valley Christian in another big WCAL series next week, while St. Ignatius Prep will play Saturday against Sacred Heart Cathedral in the Bruce Mahoney game at Oracle Park.

Valley Christian 10, Sacred Heart Cathedral 1
The Warriors held service at home on Friday to set up a battle for first in the WCAL with Saint Francis next week.
Valley will host the Lancers on Tuesday before traveling to Mountain View on Friday. Both teams have a 5-1 league record.
Alex Kim allowed one hit and a run over five innings while walking three and striking out four.
Nathan Miller had three hits, including a triple, and scored two runs, while Jacob Pauka drove in two runs for the Valley.
Sacred Heart Cathedral will be back in action Saturday when it hosts rival St. Ignatius Prep in the Bruce Mahoney game at Oracle Park, where Jacob Vines is expected to take the Irish.

Mitty 7, Riordan 4
Elijah Kroenung and Noah Fishman had two hits each, while Sona Takahashi added a home run for the Monarchs, who completed the sweep of the winless Crusaders with a come-from-behind win.
Mitty entered the bottom of the sixth inning with a 3-0 lead only to see Riordan rally for four runs to take the lead. The Monarchs responded with four runs in the top of the seventh to take charge of the contest.
Kelen Johnson picked up the win in relief for the Monarchs, who take on Serra next week.

After a week in Sacramento and a week in Tennessee, the Wildcats returns home and continued their domination of the SCVAL-De Anza Division.
Senior Ethan Williams threw his first no-hitter of the season and struck out 16, the high mark on the Peninsula this year, in a dominant effort that might have ensured him of the De Anza League's Outstanding Pitcher award for 2026.
Offensively, Brady Simon had a double, a homer and drove in two runs, while Sully Roberts had two hits and two RBI. In addition, junior second baseman Chase Frolich, who entered the week as the Peninsula's RBI leader with 19, added two more to his season total with a double.
The two teams will meet again Saturday in Santa Clara.

Sophomore Josh Porda made his third impressive start since being called up from the junior varsity squad and surrendered just three hits in picking combining with Samuel Martinez for the shutout victory.
It was Wilcox second straight win, and you get the feeling Matthew Huth's team has righted the ship after a midseason slump that dropped them into the middle of the De Anza Division standings.
Isaiah Mata had RBIs in the first and third innings for the Chargers, who won their 10 game of the season. Ryan Cabildo had two hits for Wilcox.
Meanwhile, Preston Huang appears to have figured it out after some early-season control issues. He went six innings and scattered just six hits, while walking just one and striking out three.

The Knights bounced back to salvage a series split and win their 10th game of the season behind the pitching combination of Jackson Flanagan and Fletcher Cahill.
Flanagan allowed three earned runs in four innings, while Cahill limited the Panthers to just one hits over the final three innings to earn the save.
Zach Roeder led Menlo with three hits, while senior catcher Chuck Wynn drove in two runs.
Menlo jumped to a 3-0 lead after one inning, but Burlingame tied it with three runs in the second, the big hit coming on a two-run double by Liam Philibosian.
Oscar Osuna-Lopez had two hits for Burlingame.

The King’s Academy 3, Hillsdale 2, 8 innings
The King's Academy remained at the top of the Bay Division standings by completing the sweep of Hillsdale in a series that featured two extra-inning games.
Nate Plata's home run off Hillsdale's Hugo Guzman tied the game at one in the top of the sixth. The King's Academy took the lead in the top of the seventh, but Brayden Lee's home run to right field tied the contest. It was Hillsdale's second straight game-tying homer in the seventh after Tommy Schultz accomplished the feat on Wednesday.
The King's Academy took the lead for good in the top of the eighth when Brandon Kinoshita and Justin Cho led off with walks. Hillsdale elected to intentionally walk Plata to load the bases and Dominic Myung made them pay with a run-scoring single.

The Dons capped off a big week with a nonleague win under the lights in San Mateo.
Kai Thornton went three innings and allowed a run and a hit, while striking out three to earn the win. Liam Harris and Brandon Potter combined to hold the Titans scoreless over the final four innings.
Xavier Ruiz and Keith Matye drove in two runs each, while catcher Saxon Lucia added a triple.
Aragon will square off with Sacred Heart Prep next week in a crucial PAL-Ocean Division series.
